Support the Novembeard!

WHAT'S UP
In November, many men grow beards to raise awareness for causes that are important to them. As in 2013, I am growing this year's Novembeard for the L'Arche community of Clinton, Iowa (http://www.larcheclinton.org). L'Arche communities are inclusive communities of faith and friendship in which people with and without intellectual disabilities share life together. What's more, the community in Clinton celebrates its 42nd anniversary in 2016. My goal is to raise $500.

CLOSE TO MY HEART
The friendships I developed as a camp counselor at a residential summer camp for the physically and intellectually disabled, as well as those founded during my clinical pastoral education at a state psychiatric hospital, opened my life to the living of the Gospel in unexpected ways for which I am deeply thankful. In gratitude for the gifts of these friendships, I am asking you to join me. Please consider sponsoring this Novembeard, one day at a time.

HOW IT WORKS: YOUR PART
Sign up now, indicating the per day amount with which you are willing to sponsor the beard. For example, a per day commitment of $1 turns into an end of month gift of $30, if I manage to keep the beard. Or a donation of 25 cents per day becomes an end-of-month gift of $7.50 - again, assuming the beard lasts the 30 days (they DO get itchy). At the end of the month, I will send you a short note with how we fared and what your total donation is. Then you write a check. It's that easy.

HOW IT WORKS: MY PART
By 'keep the beard,' I pledge to keep a clean neckline and upper cheek line, but not to trim the length of the beard in any way. I will post weekly photos on my blog, http://www.thepatienceoftrees.blogspot.com, to mark my progress. Whenever people ask about the beard, I will tell them about the work of L'Arche and your role as a supporter of this project.

Thank you, friends!

Peace.
