"If God Still Breathes, Why Can't I" Discussion Group
The discussion groups for this book will be led by Assistant to the Bishop Rev. Hazel Salazar-Davidson. There will be 2 groups you can choose to sign up for, one group meeting Monday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm PT and one meeting Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm PT. The groups will gather online via Zoom. Below is a personal invitation from Pr. Hazel, welcoming you to these discussions:
"I was thinking of what to say to invite you all to join me in the discussion of this book, but as I read I realized that invitation was already found in its pages. Angela N. Parker writes, “I hope this book finds a home within faith communities that share my deep love of wrestling, even if they, too, have at one time or other toss the Bible in a corner out of frustration with it deeply ingrained white supremacists ideologies it has often been used to perpetuate. I also hope this book finds a home with readers who have a deep social justice stance in their faith walk and want to understand why. This book is written to begin to excise the white supremacist authoritarianism in all of us and within our biblical interpretations regardless as to whether we identify as black, African, African-American, white, Asian, Latinx, or indigenous, we have all had aspects of white supremacists authoritarianism take up residence in our minds and bodies. What will we do to remove it?” Let’s join with one another to discover, unveil, challenge and encourage change in our spiritual journey as a synod and individually."
