Performer Information
Sydney Folk Festival aims to showcase the diversity of folk music and folk arts in NSW and beyond with an event that is fresh, vibrant and engaging. Our artistic team is looking for performers, poets, dance and community groups that represent a range of styles under the broad umbrella of folk, everything from music that represents our First Nations peoples to that which reflects the multiplicity of our Australian culture. Whether you're involved in acoustic, blues, roots, bluegrass, Celtic, country or music that expresses one of the many folk traditions from our own back yard to those from around the world, we want to hear from you.

Please read the following helpful information before starting your application.

AVAILABILITY: All acts are programmed across the festival weekend and booked on the basis of availability from 7pm Friday 13 August until 7pm Sunday 15 August. If you are not going to be available for the entire festival please let us know when completing your application.

PUBLIC LIABILITY: It is a requirement for all successful acts/artists to provide proof of current public liability insurance (PLI) for ALL members of the act at the time of contracting.

ARTIST NAMES: Please include ALL performer names in your act when completing your application. If acts need to change personnel this can be done prior to the festival with the approval of the artistic team.

ACCOMMODATION: Sydney Folk Festival is unable to provide accommodation for artists. Please ensure you take this into consideration when quoting your fee.

TIPS FOR COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION: ALL boxes marked with an * indicate a required field. On receipt of your completed application the festival will send you a confirmation email.

SUPPORT MATERIAL: For the selection process we require some form of support material. Please provide links to any relevant websites including YouTube. Live performance clips are the best way for us to determine what you do, how you do it and how you sound. If you do not provide links to any form of support material with your application it will make selection difficult and may jeopardise your chances of being accepted. For acts that have difficultly in providing material please use the "Any further information you would like us to know" box at the end of this form.

WHAT ARE YOU OFFERING: You will be asked to "Describe what you are offering the festival". Please don't give lengthy descriptions. Start a new line for each program element you want to offer and keep each entry brief and limited to one line only. See the examples below:

Concert Performances: Bluegrass and old timey music
Host: Spoken word event / Poet's Brunch
90min Dance: Macedonian dance band with caller/teacher
60min Workshop: Appalachian clog dancing
60min Workshop: Middle Eastern tunes

QUOTING YOUR FEE: Your quoted fee should cover your act for the entire festival including travel costs and accommodation. Please be realistic, moderate and reasonable. Also note that we do not pay a per-performance fee. If you charge GST please include this when quoting your fee as SFF is not registered to claim GST and this is a cost to us that needs to be included in our budget. Please keep in mind that the Sydney Folk Festival is a not-for-profit, community-based event run by volunteers. Any profits that the festival makes will be reinvested in the folk community and the staging of future festivals.

IMPORTANT: You will need to complete the application in one sitting so please have your 150-250 word act description and any links to your support material handy before starting.
