The Library is happy to offer patrons the ability to submit projects to be printed on our 3D printer, a MakerBot Desktop Replicator, 5th Generation. This is a pilot program with procedures subject to change.
3D printing classes are offered at JMRL; check the library's program calendar for dates and times.
File submission guidelines: -File formats must be either .stl or .obj.
-Open to patrons of all ages; patrons who are too young to reserve the 3D printer in person are welcome to submit prints through this form.
-Each patron currently receives up to 8 hours of print time each month, and that time can either be used all at once or over multiple smaller prints. Hours will be tracked by library card. Print time does not rollover. This does not include makerspace room reservation.
-Small or detailed 3D printed objects often have some degree of excess filament that you may need to trim or file down. This will be up to you, and not the library staff.
-Objects will print in one single color filament as chosen by the library staff.
-Makers must respect the intellectual property of others and U.S. copyright laws.
-Makerspace end-products shall be unfettered as long as they do not include defaming or obscene materials as defined by the United States Supreme Court, or material which could lead to a breach of peace or which advocate the violation of state or federal criminal laws.
-The Library is not responsible for any object created with the equipment.
Charging for Materials Used:Currently, JMRL does not charge for use of makerspace equipment or supplies while the cost to replenish 3d printer supplies is analyzed. JMRL reserves the right to begin charging for 3D printed objects in the future.
Next Steps:Once you complete and submit this form, a library staff member will be in touch with you to arrange for you to send us the design file for the project you'd like to print. Once it is determined that the project to be printed does not violate the "Northside Makerspace and Recording Studio Usage Procedure," your project will go into the queue to be printed. Once it is completed, a staff member will let you know it is available to be picked up at Northside Library.
