Compass for the Caregiver Workshop
Caregivers carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. Many of them attend medical appointments, prepare meals, help with finances/personal medical care, and provide transportation or home-living support to a loved one.

If any of this sounds like part of your routine, we can help!

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is proud to host Caregivers Alberta’s award-winning COMPASS for the Caregiver program. Facilitated by our Community Wellness Coordinator, Gina Levasseur, this 6-week program is designed to assist caregivers balance their own well-being with the challenges of providing care.

Sessions will occur online through Zoom on Fridays: January 31 to March 7, 2025

Individual Dates:  January 31, February 7, Feb 14, Feb 21, Feb 28, March 7

9:00 AM  11:30 AM (2.5 Hrs.)

Previous participant feedback indicated a need for extra sessions as a group, and we have allotted this time to reflect on the participant's wishes.  Based on group progress, we may work in the same module for up to 2 sessions, or complete a module in 1 session.

Module 1: Being a Caregiver

You will learn to recognize your strengths, needs, and challenges as a caregiver, and take pride in your role. You will examine your emotions and feelings, and find a new perspective on challenging thoughts and response patterns.

Module 2: Managing Your Stress
You will learn how stress can lead to burnout, and what you can do to prevent or recover from burnout. We'll explore how to shift our mindset and seek balance in caregiving.

Module 3: Balancing Relationships
You will improve your communication skills, learn to identify what you need, and find ways to ask for help to share the care. You will work on one of caregiver’s hardest hurdles, regaining your identity as a whole person by taking care of yourself first.

Module 4: Navigating the Journey & Closing
Increase your confidence in accessing services, reflect on your caregiving journey, and plan for the future to avoid the stress of uncertainty.
