WHAT IS COP23?COP, or the "Conference of the Parties," is the annual meeting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), where almost 200 countries gather annually to negotiate lowering global greenhouse gas emissions. SustainUS has been bringing young people to such conferences for 16 years, to highlight youth voices - acting upon our belief in the importance of youth when fighting for climate justice - and stand in solidarity with communities on the frontlines of climate change across the world. We do this through many avenues: advocating for policy, storytelling, action-planning, international community building, and more. There's a place for all types of skills on our team; whether you're a scientist, artist, or community organizer - we welcome you to apply.
HOW TO APPLY:First step: Fill out this short form no later than Monday, April 3rd. We'll then soon be in touch with instructions for our application process, a 6-week Creative Challenge that encourages participants to publicly share stories with the world. We see this process as a way of showcasing stories of the inspiring youth resistance happening across the country. You could publish writing, record a podcast or song, create artwork - any medium that encapsulates your message! We’ll be here for support throughout the whole process, and you'll be able to build community with others in the challenge with you. This Creative Challenge model was created last year for our COP22 delegation, and its success led us to launch it again!
ELIGIBILITY:To be eligible for our US youth delegation to the 2017 UN Climate Negotiations, you must be:- Between the ages of 18 and 28 on November 6, 2017.- Have some relationship to the U.S. (ex: living/working/studying here) for at least six months by November 6, 2017.
DATES & DEADLINES: This form will close on Monday, April 3rd, the same day that the Creative Challenge will launch. The Challenge will last for 6 weeks, officially closing on Monday, May 22nd. We also encourage early submissions, and will have a priority deadline of Monday, April 24th.
