APHA CHW Section Sewell Scholarship Application
With the support of the Sewell Scholarship hosted through the American Public Health Association (APHA), the Community Health Worker Section of APHA is pleased to announce our annual funding to support CHW participation in the APHA annual meeting.  One important goal of the CHW Section scholarship subsidies is to help CHW leaders to learn about the mission and vision of APHA and the APHA CHW Section and to learn about opportunities for engagement and leadership within the CHW Section. The 4 offered CHW Section Scholarship subsidies are $1,000 per recipient. These funds must be first be dedicated to support the recipient’s APHA annual membership and/or to support registration and attendance at the APHA 2022 Annual Meeting scheduled for November 6-9 in Boston, Massachusetts. Any funds not required by the recipient for the APHA membership and meeting registration can be utilized for direct expenses associated with meeting participation; receipts for expenses must be submitted with reimbursement request.

Applications are due by 11:59 pm CST on Friday, August 5, 2022

Awardees will be notified the week of September 9, 2022
NOTE: the stipend is a reimbursement based following confirmation of APHA membership & attendance at the APHA annual meeting.

Eligibility and Award Criteria:

     •Applicant must 18 years of age or older
     •Applicants must be a practicing CHW
     •Recipients must complete the required application, complete with the two references with accurate contact
     •A confirmation statement/form of applicant’s CHW role (paid or unpaid) from a CHW program director is
    •Top candidates may be asked to participate in a virtual interview

Awardee selection criteria for individuals are listed below; additionally, collectively ideally awardees will represent a diverse group. Individual applications will be examined to assess:  
    The specific type of community health worker or outreach work undertaken by applicants  
    Involvement in and commitment to community health worker role and those served
    CHW field development activities including involvement within the APHA CHW Section, and/or other local,
       state or national CHW associations and networks
    Self-development and leadership development goals

If awarded the Sewell Scholarship, recipient must:
Register for APHA with the CHW Section as a primary affiliation
Participate in a virtual pre-meeting orientation
Attend the annual meeting including CHW Section hosted business meetings and the Section social event
Submit a brief written report to the CHW Section Awards Committee after the Annual Meeting to be shared with Section leadership to CHW_Section@connect.apha.org
