ABOUT: Solving For Humanity (SFH) is a global youth innovation challenge from June to August 2023. By July 21, 130+ teams of youth will submit data-driven written proposals or videos that identify the top priority problem in human development and define success in addressing their chosen problem. The Global Top 3 teams present their recommendations to the Director of the UNDP Human Development Report Office. Thank you for your interest in helping young leaders make the most of this uncommon opportunity to be a thought partner to the United Nations.
ORGANIZERS: SFH is co-organized by South-North Scholars (SNS), a youth-led sustainable development career network founded at Duke University connecting young professionals and students in 50+ countries, working with experts at the Human Development Report Office (HDRO), a high-level unit of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) that publishes the Human Development Index and other global metrics.
3 WAYS TO GET INVOLVED: Our 130+ teams of young leaders are excited to learn from you and your work! Experts in both private and public sectors are crucial sources of feedback and career inspiration for teams.
1. Expert sessions (until July 21): We are organizing 1-hour "expert sessions" featuring a young professional (30 min discussion on your work and career path + 30 min moderated Q&A where teams get informal feedback on their ideas). If you'd like to co-host one, we can organize this and arrange a 15 min briefing call with you prior to the session.
2. Global Judging Committee (starts July 24, due August 6): We are seeking young professionals and grad students to serve on our Global Judging Committee virtually and asynchronously (on your own time), scoring competition entries (each is 3 pages or a 5 minute video). We will share a guiding rubric for scoring.
3. Global Advisory Board: If you're open to providing feedback and ideas for how we can improve SFH, we would be honored to have you as an advisor, either informally or on the Advisory Board listed on the website. We deeply appreciate your insights as we refine this unique global youth opportunity.
To show our appreciation for your service as a judge and/or expert, we will:
- provide an official Letter of Acknowledgment upon conclusion of expert sessions and judging,
- publish your bio and photo (optional) online and in our digital publication of the top proposals,
- invite you to a virtual meet-and-greet for judges/experts with the UNDP Human Development Report Office in late July (more details to follow by email)
