Queen’s Workers United for Respect and Dignity: Quality education and research through fair income and funding

PSAC 901 members who are Postdoctoral Scholars are united in our concerns about the financial strain caused by historically low wages, compressed for years by Bill 124, and inadequate support relative to the cost of living. We urgently need fair wages to cover housing and basic living expenses for all our members. We need access to health services, affordable housing, and childcare. We need guaranteed support in times of hardship and for our career and professional development. We need support to ease the stress and financial burden of relocation for our future colleagues who are moving to Kingston to begin their careers. The unnecessary burdens we face as postdocs at Queen’s affect the quality of research we are able to provide, especially for those in equity-seeking groups. Our university community deserves better investment in the research and teaching we provide.

We declare our support for our colleagues on the Postdoc Bargaining Committee in fighting for our priorities at the bargaining table, and we commit to standing with them in the face of Queen's stonewalling. We call on the administration to support quality campus services, respect and dignity for all staff through protecting jobs and ensuring fair wages, and we declare our unity in supporting the demands of other Queen’s workers in this cause.
