What is the Mount Hope Bay Greenway?
The Mount Hope Bay Greenway is a proposed shared-use trail that will extend from the Battleship Cove area to the State of Rhode Island border at Tiverton, TI. The 3.5-mile shared-use trail will run along the railroad right-of-way corridor south to Tiverton. The Town of Tiverton is also exploring the feasibility of the Mount Hope Bay Greenway, which would connect with Fall River's section of the trail.

The corridor is owned by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is currently unused. As envisioned, the Mount Hope Bay Greenway will enhance bicycle and pedestrian connectivity between the city's green spaces, schools, and existing trail systems in neighboring municipalities and the State of Rhode Island.

Additionally, we are studying the feasibility of a "rail with trail" design because the City of Fall River has proposed extending rail service from Battleship Cove to the city's wastewater treatment plant. This future rail service would share the right-of-way with the greenway.

What is the goal of this survey?
The goal is to solicit input from residents and city officials, including staff and committee/board members, on the proposed Mount Hope Bay Greenway. The information gathered will be incorporated into the conceptual design of the Mount Hope Bay Greenway being prepared by the City's consultant - Stantec.
What type of information will be gathered as part of the conceptual plan?
The conceptual design will consider existing site conditions and key design and constructability issues related to the conversion of the existing railroad corridor into a shared-use trail. The design will also recommend a trail alignment, necessary easement locations, necessary utility coordination, and potential trail connections, landscaping, and amenities.
How was the Feasibility Study and Conceptual Design funded?
This project is funded by the City of Fall River's Community Preservation Fund.
What are the next steps?
The City's consultant, Stantec, is in the process of conducting a physical inventory and assessment of the project corridor and evaluating key design issues. The results of the Conceptual Plan and Feasibility Study will be presented at a Public Information Meeting this spring.

In addition to answering the following questions, please also leave comments on our interactive map!
Are there any areas you are concerned about? These areas might be particular roadway crossings, places you might feel unsafe, etc.
Are there areas you would like to see connections to the neighborhood/stores/parks/etc?
Please review styles and various types of amenities then identify design features you'd like to see on the trail (benches, maps, bike racks, etc.).
