Volunteer Onboarding Form (volunteer button)

Savage Sisters Recovery, Inc offers the community a plethora of ways to give back. Savage Sisters began as an effort to address the lack of ethically run transitional sober homes for women in recovery in the Philadelphia area. As we responded to the different crises so many in our community were facing, our mission grew, which resulted in two more programs being developed. Today we accomplish our mission of attacking addiction ferociously with radical love through connection via three programs: Housing, Outreach and Education. We ask volunteers to get involved in our Outreach program.

Our street based Outreach program serves those in active use. Volunteers and staff hit the streets every weekday throughout Philadelphia and Delaware County. During Outreach we aim to reduce overdose deaths, reduce the spread of infectious diseases, provide resources needed for people to get into treatment, and connect with those we are serving. We distribute Harm Reduction materials, seasonally appropriate clothing, hygiene kits, healthy snacks and meals, first aid kits, and PPE equipment. We provide wound care services, offer access to running water, bathrooms, and showers.. We lead a beautification effort, with staff and volunteers going mobile to clean up the surrounding area. Lastly, we link participants to additional care, offer transportation and assistance in accessing services such as drug and alcohol treatment centers.

Volunteers are reminded that we are serving folks where they are at; we are going into their space. We respect those we serve, we respect their autonomy, we never pressure people in any way - including to go to rehab or get into recovery, and we always spread radical love. When someone we are serving is seeking treatment, we offer transportation to a clinic or the hospital. In these situations, please find a staff member to assist with transportation. Never travel alone, especially at night. Make sure to dress appropriately according to the weather, never wear open toed shoes, dress as though you are going to be cleaning up trash, and never bring your own materials for distribution without prior approval from Savage Sisters Staff. Additionally, no one is permitted to take photos of the people we serve, however photos can be taken of activities and volunteers. Volunteers will be photographed, and those photographs will be shared on public platforms. Thank you for helping us serve the community.
