#NGSchool2020: Registration form
Welcome to the registration form for #NGSchool2020 (https://ngschool.eu/ngschool2020/) that will be held on 22.07 - 31.07.2020 in Białobrzegi, Poland.

And just a note: you will find the description of the form below, but we discuss selection criteria in more detail here: https://ngschool.eu/selection/ngschool2020, we recommend reading it before applying.

This form consist of 6 sections:

1) General info and GDPR
2) Motivation
3) Probability and Statistics Quiz
4) Data Analysis Quiz
5) Paper Understanding Quiz
6) Registration fee information and bursary application.

Section 2 is there to help us assess your motivation and how well will you benefit from this course, while section 3 through to 5 have two aims: (1) to get a general idea of how well versed in each of those you are and (2) show you what type of knowledge and skills you may work on while preparing for the school.

We assume that any applicant have a laptop that they can bring to school. Laptop should be based on Linux/macOS (virtual box is possible). Windows support by the organisers is limited and not guaranteed. Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide spare laptops.

We are working hard to secure enough funding to lower the registration fee as much as possible and at the same time to provide as many travel grants as possible. This, however, will greatly depend on the generosity of our sponsors. We discuss the registration fee in more detail in Section 6, and there is also an option to apply for the travel grant.

We wanted the form to be as simple as possible, while at the same time, to allow for a fair and informed selection process. We understand that filling the form might be time-consuming and, to allow you to work on it throughout the registration period, we provide an option to save an incomplete application. You may edit all the answers before the registration deadline.

We hope you enjoy the form! We will get back to you with the selection results around within a few weeks from closing the registration.

Good luck!
#NGSchool2020 TEAM

We expect our future participants to know statistics at the intermediate level, to be familiar with Linux terminal, to understand basic ideas of statistical genomics (we will teach you the methods), being able to code basic data analysis scripts in both R and Python. If you feel that you do not match the above criteria, we provide a list of materials you may use for self-preparation. This list is not extensive and you are not obliged to finish any of these courses or provide any proofs that you have actually finished them. However, we can not guarantee your progress during the school if you do not have the above mentioned skills. We will provide introductory lessons, but they will be more recap sessions since it is not possible to teach any of these skills in several hours.

-- Statistics: https://www.coursera.org/learn/biostatistics , https://www.coursera.org/learn/biostatistics-2 or analogous (1st part is minimum, 2nd part is recommended)

-- Ideas of statistical genomics: we would recommend to understand the problems described in e.g. http://statweb.stanford.edu/~sabatti/research.html , however without focusing on the particular researcher and without going deep into methods (we will teach the methods at the school)

-- R for data science: https://www.coursera.org/learn/r-programming or https://swirlstats.com/

-- Python for data science: https://www.learnpython.org/ or https://www.codecademy.com

-- Linux terminal: https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/command-line-for-beginners#1-overview or (more hardcore) https://missing.csail.mit.edu

Again, you are NOT obliged to do any of these, but we assume that your skills match our expectations so you can maximally benefit from the very beginning of the school!
