Thank you for your interest in attending the YWiC Computer Science camp for girls in middle school! There is no cost to participate.

Computer Science projects will include Game Design, Robotics, and CyberSecurity & Encryption.

This YWiC Summer Camp is reserved for new participants and will host 30 young women in middle school. Camp will include lunch, materials and supplies, an opportunity to win technology prizes, plus swag (bags, notepads, pens, etc.). This camp is designed for girls rising into 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.

NMSU's Department of Computer Science and the Young Women in Computing program (or YWiC, pronounced "why whick") summer camps are tailored to achieve four major goals:

1) Build community among young women through computing;
2) Increase young women's interest in computing;
3) Gain knowledge and experience with programming languages; and
4) Drastically increase young women's confidence in Computer Science.

Each goal is achieved through specific sets of activities implemented in the summer camp. Participants utilize computational thinking through a variety of interactive software tools. These tools, along with team building, career exploration, and leadership activities, show students that computer science is a fun, creative, engaging, and rewarding field!

NMSU is a nationally ranked Carnegie Foundation research institution with top performing programs and services. We strive for excellence in all areas of teaching and learning, and work to identify best practices for continued success. All participants will engage in this process via pre- and post-assessments, entry and exit interviews, daily surveys, and other data gathering methods.

Summer programs are presented by the outreach team in the Department of Computer Science at NMSU! Instructors are accomplished NMSU students studying computer science and electrical engineering. We utilize near-peer mentors as educators to build strong connections between participants and the exciting world of CS.

Acceptance into this program is based on first entry and is not a competitive process. The application remained open until all slots were filled.
