For students (who have not yet been through the Academy) and their parents, the following is the schedule.
Parents of current Ambassadors who have not attended a Parents' Meeting during an Academy are strongly encouraged to attend the Parents' Meeting.

8:15am - 2:00pm (snack and lunch provided for students) - **See gathering time below - very important!**
Basic outline of the day for students and parents:
8:15am - Gather at Tryon Creek State Park Nature Center for Guided Walk to Farm (details below--be *on time*)
8:45am - Registration and sign-in opens - Please be on time.
9:00am - Plant for the Planet Academy Begins!
*9:00am - Parent Workshop begins (which lasts until about 10:30)
12:45pm - Parents and other Guests are encouraged to arrive at the farm for the student presentations
1:00pm – Student presentations and Graduation!

**Tryon Life Community Farm is a beautiful location, but because they are on the edge of a state park, we will be needing to walk there from the state park, where there is parking. Arrive on time to park at Tryon Creek State Park on Terwilliger Blvd and meet up at 8:15 at the Tryon Creek State Park Nature Center so you can hike together (20 min) through the forest to Tryon Life Community (TLC) Farm. Please be on time as we will be hiking in a group! There is no parking for the Academy at TLC Farm. (If you have mobility issues that make you unable to walk through the forest, read below for what to do.) Please do not drive to TLC Farm directly, and do not park in the surrounding neighborhood. Two of our volunteers will be your guides for this beautiful walk.
Parents will be free from about 10:30 to 12:30 and are welcome to hang out and enjoy the farm (bring a book?), hike in the State Park, join TLC Farm's natural building cob workparty, or leave and return in time for the students' presentation. (Google maps (not Apple) show a path through the forest; only the last part of it is different from the path we will be using.) Alternately, we can provide a map of the State Park to guide you back to your car.

For everyone without mobility issues:
Please arrive by 8:15 at the Tryon Creek State Park Nature Center. Our volunteers, who will be wearing their Plant-for-the-Planet shirts so they're easy to spot, will meet you there and bring you to the Farm. Be prepared to carry your belongings for the 20-min forest hike.
Lunch for youth and volunteers is provided; if parents plan to spend the day, please bring something to share with everyone (such as fruit, chips and salsa...).
There are many ways volunteers can help; no special knowledge is required to help, though please share with us any special skills you could contribute to the Academy. We can especially use the skills of teachers and retired teachers since they help the group work with students to go smoothly. Please email Pam at: vergun @

At the Academy, students learn to inspire Climate Change efforts, teaching one another about Climate Change through making presentations, planting trees, and participating in other activities as Ambassadors for Climate Justice. They learn the science of Climate Change, how to give a Climate presentation, tree planting, and and how they can engage their communities and make a difference for their future.
Academies are FREE to students grades 4-12, who in addition to the training, receive free lunch and snacks, an Ambassador t-shirt, and the book "Tree By Tree”.
