The Code Cooperative facilitates prisoner reentry by teaching formerly incarcerated individuals valuable, practical, and applicable skills in computer literacy, technology, and programming.
We are recruiting volunteer mentors for the next Code Cooperative class (starting on June 30, 2018). Our mentors work 1-on-1 with our students to meet their learning goals. Supported by our core team, our mentors coach our students as they learn essential skills in computer literacy, code, and web development, with the goal of building a web app that addresses a social problem they have identified.
The ideal Code Cooperative mentor is:> Passionate about working with justice-involved individuals (ie. who have been involved with the justice system)> Highly competent with web development technologies > Empathetic, patient and adaptable> Extremely reliable and punctual> Willing to go the extra mile to help a student> An excellent communicator
Nice to haves:> Professional programming experience> Previous teaching or mentorship experience> Previous experience working with justice-involved individuals
Time commitment:> 10 weeks starting on Saturday June 30, 2018> 5 hours / week
