Unity Day '19: Each One, Teach One - (Teacher/ Comm. Partner/ Student Interest Form)
Unity Day is an annual Youth Together event put on by our very own youth and community. Unity Day began in 2001 as a way to respond to racial tensions, to build solidarity within schools, and to promote peace within our community. Unity Days are way for our community to come together and arm our students with knowledge & tools they need to fight for our collective liberation.

This year's Theme: Each One, Teach One: Knowledge is Power
- Each One, Teach One is a community ideology that is embedded within all of our communities, but popularized during American slavery, where it was illegal for enslaved Africans to learn or teach literacy. Even in the midst violent and life-costing conditions, those that were able to learn during enslavement secretly and strategically taught their community as a way to empower both their minds and spirits, and pave the way toward their own spiritual, mental, and physical liberation.

Each One, Teach One is a community-centered call-to-action that reminds us that every one of us has a stake in our collective freedom. As a community, it is our responsibility to equip ourselves and each other with the necessary tools and skillsets, intergenerational knowledge, and healing practices to reclaim our individual and collective power.
