Journeymen is a multi-layered organization that relies on the commitments of everyone involved. This includes youth participants, apprentices, adult Mentors, Elders, Volunteers, and at the core of our community, the select professional instructors and guides who have chosen this work as a central focus in their life.
One of our top priorities is to remain accessible to as many qualified participants as possible. We run lean programs that require significant commitments from volunteers, mentors, and apprentices, reserving paid positions for highly experienced Guides, Instructors and Staff whose specific contributions are critical to the success and safety of our programs.
At Journeymen, we consider consider "Guides" to be professional human development guides who commit to leading at least one full program (such as an overnight Rite of Passage or a Mentor Training weekend).
"Instructors" usually lead or co-lead a specific activity during a longer program (such as primitive skills or martial arts), or come on-board to lead groups on a specific recreational adventure.
Though not always required, we strongly encourage our Guides and Instructors to consider working with us for several programs and events, maximizing the collaborative potential between us and creating strong bonds across our community.
