Reunite Families!
Please fill out these questions honestly to be added to our database of volunteers willing to companion recent arrivals from detention centers to their families. Preference will be given to people who live nearby the detention or destination city, speak Spanish, and are familiar with immigration issues. All volunteers must have already passed a background check and are cleared to work with children. If you are selected you will be given a call by a volunteer who will check the your availability and book the ticket(s) for you. Background check
In order to work with families and children you must have a background check that clears you to work with children in the past year. Since most volunteers who work with children in congregations already have a background check we will need a reference from your faith leader confirming this has been done.

YOUR APPLICATION IS NOT COMPLETE UNLESS YOUR FAITH LEADER/REFERENCE CONFIRMS YOUR BACKGROUND CHECK BY EMAILING IT [PLEASE INCLUDE 'REUNITE FAMILIES REFERENCE' IN THE EMAIL SUBJECT] TO: Deva Jones - djones@uucsj.org

Have you passed a background check within the past year to work with children? *
Could your faith leader provide you with a letter of reference confirming the nature of your character and the validity of your background check? *
Please provide the name of your faith leader/reference *
Please provide the email of your faith leader/reference *
Please provide the phone number of your faith leader/reference *
Nature of Accompaniment
Those familiar with the struggle for human rights in immigration are familiar with how difficult it is due to the arbitrary nature and frequent injustices perpetuated. This means we have to be patient and flexible. You may be called but your flight could be canceled at the last moment. You could fly out to pickup someone only to find they won't be released for another week. You may be told you are to accompany one person only to find out you have been assigned a different person. There are many other unforeseen circumstances that could happen in this chaotic environment.
Are you prepared for the chaotic and urgent nature of this volunteering role? *
What is your availability? *
By typing your name here, you commit to being available to companion someone through TSA and reunite families. You also understand that the cost of your flight will be covered but you will be responsible for covering the cost of food and any other incidentals (we will try to find you cheap/free housing if possible.) *
