Event Synopsis
The Government launched the Roadmap on Sustainability Disclosure in Hong Kong in December 2024, outlining Hong Kong's strategy to adopt the International Financial Reporting Standards - Sustainability Disclosure Standards (ISSB Standards) no later than 2028. The launch of the roadmap underscores the city’s strong commitment to continuing its leading role in facilitating green and sustainable financing and investment for the global green transition agenda. Moreover, the roadmap elaborates on Hong Kong's vision and efforts to develop a comprehensive ecosystem to support sustainability disclosures. This includes initiatives such as sustainability assurance, data and technology enhancements, and capacity-building measures for market participants.
Earth Forum 2025 aims to discuss how Hong Kong can cement its position as a premier destination for cross-boundary capital flows by enhancing its appeal for green issuers and investors on equity and debt markets. This can be done by aligning with a globally recognised standard, fostering transparency, and building a strong foundation of skills and expertise in sustainability reporting, from which Hong Kong can strengthen investor confidence and boost its global appeal. Additionally, a robust ecosystem that supports trusted, high-quality disclosures and capacity building will enable businesses to meet international investors’ expectations, which will, in turn, solidify Hong Kong’s role as a leading hub for future-proof financing and investment activities.
