Greetings from the Department of Black Studies!
We’re bringing back the African Film Festival that was once one of our annual events (pre-covid), and we’d love for it to be part of Africa Week this spring.
This survey is designed to get feedback and suggestions from
PASA members, as we want this multi-day event to be student-centered. We’d be
grateful if you can take a few minutes to fill out this short survey to help us
plan around your interests and schedules. Below you’ll find questions about
choosing films, and choosing what days and times you think would bring out the
most student attendance. Each screening
will have some kind of food and beverage—some combination of pizza, popcorn,
cookies, soda, and the like.
We're tentatively planning for up to three screenings, with each film
focused on a different theme: 1) gender/sexuality/LGBTQ+ experience; 2)
documentary/experimental; 3) classic African cinema. You'll find these categories below, with suggested possible films (and links), along with a blank field for you to provide your own suggestion that's not listed here. Please note that we're restricted to screening films that have distributors that handle copyright permissions.
Please complete this survey by Saturday February 22, to allow us time to secure films, copyright, and screening space on campus. And feel free to forward this survey on to anyone who might also want to give their input.
You're welcome to write to Professor Omelsky (BLST Director of Undergraduate Studies) at matthew.omelsky@rochester.edu with any questions.
