The Curtin CoderDojo is looking for volunteer mentors for Semester 2, 2022!
--- WHO ARE WE? ---
Curtin CoderDojo is a course run by fellow Curtin students where we (the mentors) help high-school-aged kids (the ninjas) learn to code. We have a relatively unstructured course, focused on teaching the ninjas whatever they'd like to know! We tend to focus on Python/Java-based platforms, but the range of projects kids bring in keeps us sharp ;)
--- WHY JOIN? ---
Being a mentor teaches you valuable soft skills, and equips you with experience for your resume!
This semester we will also aim to offer mentors with an opportunity to work on a real programming project over the course of the Dojo. Not to mention we're Curtin Extra approved!
--- WHEN IS IT? ---
We will be running *every Saturday* for 8 weeks, from July 23 to September 10 (inclusive), 10am - 11:30am.
The first session we request you arrive early for training, and the final session will be more of a celebratory end-of-course session, finishing things up and showing off what you and the kids have been working on.
--- REQUIREMENTS ---
We require that mentors...
- Must be a Curtin University student enrolled in a Computing major
- Must have passed PDI or FOP (or equivalent)
We'd love if our mentors had prior proof of...
- Communication skills
- Willingness to learn new skills and try new things
