New Haven Climate Movement (NHCM) is a youth-led nonprofit advocating for climate action, climate education and climate justice in New Haven by mobilizing community residents and local organizations.
Following the Board of Education's passing of the Climate Emergency Resolution (CER) in September 2022, the New Haven Climate Movement now calls on the Board of Education to:
- Hire an energy coordinator to develop proposals, seek funding, and support energy project implementation.
- Hire a climate education coordinator to incorporate climate and public health education across all levels and subjects.
- Hire a permanent sustainability coordinator to support climate and public health initiatives related to healthy transportation, better food choices, and reducing waste.
- Hire a grant writer to fund progressive, impactful climate projects in New Haven.
We also call on Mayor Elicker and the New Haven Board of Alders to allocate funds specifically for the Board of Education to implement climate resilience and education projects in the New Haven Public Schools District for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
