Call for Proposals! Cultivating Culture: A Gathering of Jewish Farmers
Submission deadline: October 25, 2019
Notified by: November 8, 2019

For the first annual Cultivating Culture Conference, we hope to uplift a diverse and dynamic group of Jewish farmers to present on their area of farming expertise, ancient Jewish agrarian thought, food justice, and the intersection of the three. Here are some more details about what we’re looking for:

- Practical skills pertaining to all aspects of agriculture including, but not limited to, seasonal vegetable production, livestock husbandry, cut flowers, medicinal herbs, value added products, perennial management, soil health, permaculture, business management, and marketing.

-Jewish agricultural wisdom including, but not limited to, histories, text studies, contemporary models for Jewish farming

- Food justice, food sovereignty, and community building

Most sessions will be 75 minutes with the exception of some 15 “lightning round” sessions.

We believe that everyone is an expert and that we all have some special wisdom to share with this emerging community. With that in mind, it is our hope that at least ⅓ of participants will also be stepping into the role of facilitator during this conference. If you have any fear/reservations about whether or not you can/should submit a proposal, feel free to contact Shani Mink at

Just to note, we will be clustering practical farm skills and justice work into Thursday and Friday and doing Jewish learning over Shabbat.

We get to celebrate Shabbat together! Yay! We are looking for people to lead prayer services (orthodox, traditional egalitarian, renewal etc.), blessings before and after meals or any sort of singing and meditation. If you think that’s you, please reach out to Shani at
