Application Information
Thank you for your interest in joining the 2020 Afghan Youth Committee (AYC) team.
We are recruiting for the Lead, Executive, and Associate positions, which will work under the leadership of the AYC Director (who will be elected at the ACIC elections on December 8th).

- Executive Lead (2 positions)
- Executive (4-6 positions)
- Associate (8-10 positions)

These roles will mainly involve planning Islamic, cultural (Afghan-Canadian), social, recreational, outreach and charitable events. The executive team also handles all AYC-related communications.

If you would like to apply to be an Associate on the General Team and help at AYC events year-round, you can do so by filling out ONLY the FIRST & SECOND pages and entering N/A in all other required fields. This role is recommended if you have no previous AYC involvement or experience. This is a great opportunity to get involved and a stepping stone for future opportunities!

All Executives and Associates must follow AYC Code of Conduct.

IMPORTANT DATES

Executive team applicants must be at least 16 years old. Associate applicants must be at least 13 years old.

Only successful candidates will be contacted for a follow-up, interview, or an offer to join the team. Below, you will be able to select your preferred roles and focus areas by level of preference. Candidates will be offered a position based on their application and may not be offered their preferred role.

General descriptions of the roles and responsibilities are included below.

AYC follows the Ja'fari School of Thought. All team members must act in accordance with these principles at ALL TIMES.

The AYC Director for 2020 will be Brother Morteza Rasoul.

AYC Executive Lead (Executive Team) - Responsibilities
The Executive Lead will be responsible for leading sub-groups of the AYC team throughout the year. They will lead teams for projects and events and act as an aid to the director. They will work closely with, support, and report to the director throughout the year by ensuring tasks are completed and high quality results are achieved. The Executive Lead will attend monthly meetings and assist in planning and executing events and projects. The Executive Lead will be involved in strategic planning for AYC's short and long-term goals.

Executives MUST agree to all terms in the AYC executive contract. This includes following an Islamic code of conduct at all AYC events and when representing AYC, and attending a minimum of 70% of AYC events. Executives who do not maintain an acceptable attendance rate for meetings and events will be suspended and eventually removed from the team.

The main areas of focus will be:
- Religious events
- Social events
- Outreach & charity work
- Communications

Executive Leads are required to:
- Attend meetings (usually monthly)
- Lead groups for specific projects
- Plan events and work on projects
- Assist director in delegating and following up on tasks
- Attend most AYC events
- Manage any specific portfolios assigned to them

The Executive Lead position will ONLY be offered to candidates with leadership experience, past AYC involvement, and pertinent skills. All team members must be willing and able to work as a team and be respectful at all times.
AYC Executive (Executive Team) - Responsibilities
The AYC Executive will be involved in strategic planning for AYC's short and long-term goals. They will attend monthly meetings to assist in planning projects and events. They will report to the director and, depending on the project, to the Executive Lead(s). The Executive will ensure that projects are completed with a high degree of quality and ensure events are run smoothly.

Executives MUST agree to all terms in the AYC executive contract. This includes following an Islamic code of conduct at all AYC events and when representing AYC, and attending a minimum of 70% of AYC events. Executives who do not maintain an acceptable attendance rate for meetings and events will be suspended and eventually removed from the team.

Executives are required to:

- Attend meetings (usually monthly)
- Plan events and work on projects
- Complete assigned tasks
- Attend most AYC events
- Lead events assigned to them

Executives MUST be willing and able to work as a team, be open-minded and respectful towards others, and follow through on decisions made by the team, Director, and Executive Lead(s).
Associate (General Team) - Responsibilities
An Associate will assist in helping events run smoothly. They will be contacted throughout the year regarding events and what their role will be. Associate will be updated on upcoming projects and events and will share their ideas and feedback. They will be working as a team with other associates and the executives and must be open-minded and respectful. There will be meetings for the General Team that Associates will be expected to attend.

If you cannot commit the time that is required to be an executive, signing up as a general volunteer is a great way to contribute and give back to the community! It is also a great way to gain AYC experience. Your role will include:

- Attending quarterly meetings
- Providing feedback and suggestions
- Assisting with assigned tasks at events
