PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION BEFORE COMPLETING YOUR REGISTRATION FORM
This methodology training offers teachers the opportunity to learn the components of brain-based teaching, which include (1) comprehensible input tools like TPR (Total Physical Response) and TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) and (2) stress management tools like relaxation through guided breathing and gentle movements.
* EXPERIENCE brain-based learning, comprehensible input activities, and tools like TPR (Total Physical Response) and TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) in the 5-day language class.
* RESEARCH: Receive information on the research basis of brain-based learning and resources for further study/discussion with colleagues.
* PRACTICE / Q & A: Build TPR/TPRS skills using simple, prepared sample lesson plans you will practice with your peers. Give and get feedback. NOTA BENE: The formation of the curriculum and texts of the CALA classes will be included in the information, but we know from experience that any changes in the curriculum of individual classes, schools, or districts requires lengthy on-going work, and it is not possible to address those issues in this 10-hour workshop.
GENERAL DAILY SCHEDULE
* 1:00 -3:00pm - Discuss classroom experience, receive handouts on research base, and practice skill-building. Breaks can be taken any time as needed during this period.
* 3:00 - 4:00pm (optional) - Practice stress management techniques (yoga).
******************************************************
* GENERAL NOTE: You will experience CALA methods first-hand by taking (at least) one CALA language course of your choice prior to or during the week of June 18-22, 2018. For teachers who have experienced and embraced TPR/TPRS as their method of choice but need ideas and guidance on how to make it work in their classroom, it is permissible to take the same language that they teach. For other teachers, it is recommended that they take a language different from the one they teach (or know). This will sensitize those teachers to the experience that students have as they learn a new language through TPR/TPRS.
* TIME: June 18-22, 2018, 1:00-3:00pm (4:00pm if staying for yoga)
* LOCATION: MTSU Honors Building, Room 116
* REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Friday, June 15, 2018
* PRICING AND PAYMENT: The cost is $185 per language course selected. This cost covers tuition for the language course; the afternoon workshop is provided free of charge. * CANCELLATIONS: If the participant cancels prior to the registration deadline for the language course(s) selected (noted in the registration form that follows), he or she will receive a refund minus a $25 cancellation fee. If the participant cancels after the registration deadline for the language course(s) selected, no refund will be issued. If the workshop does not make due to lack of enrollment (less than 10 participants), no refund will be issued as payment applies to the language course(s) selected and the workshop is provided at no cost.
