Where: Rehearsals will take place at the Eau Claire Music School and the concert will take place at the Metro.
Cost: $100 (need-based scholarships available upon request)Tuition is not due until the band members are announced
Teachers:Adelyn Strei, Jill Heinke-Moen, and Deirdre Jenkins
Who:We seek to encourage, educate, and promote female musicians in the context of a music culture that has historically been male dominated. Enrollment in the Girls Rock Experience is open to individuals in 6th through 12th grade who self-identify as female, trans, and gender non-conforming. Vocalists and instrumentalists are invited to apply. While instruments such as drums, bass, guitar, and keyboard are typically associated with rock music, players of other instruments are welcome to apply as well (e.g. string, brass, and wind players.)
Audition:Our long-term goal is to develop this program so that it can serve a wide variety of students, but in this first year the number of bands will be limited to two. Unfortunately, this means that not all applicants may be able to participate. Participants will be chosen on a variety of criteria, including their musical ability and the needs of the two bands.
Applicants should have confidence playing their instrument or singing since it will not be possible to teach the basics of technique. (In the future, we hope offer opportunities for less experienced musicians.) Auditions will be arranged in-person at the Eau Claire Music School or must be submitted as a video. The video should include the applicant playing or singing a piece of music for at least 60 seconds. (The video may be recorded for the purpose of the submission or may be of a concert or other performance. It does not need to be professional quality.)
