The Saint of the Islands, a documentary by Anomaa Rajakaruna, is set on a small island between Sri Lanka and India, where thousands of fishermen gather each year for the annual feast of St. Anthony of Padua. Filmed during the celebrations at Kachchatheevu and in nearby Neduntheevu (Delft Island), the film explores the shared devotional practices that draw communities across borders. At the same time, it reflects on the surrounding waters as sites of contestation, shaping struggles over survival, identity, and belonging. Through these intersecting realities, the documentary considers whether a shared faith can offer possibilities for connection and coexistence in a space increasingly marked by division.
