WHO WE ARE: The Healthy King County Coalition is a group of King County residents and organizations united to achieve health equity through policy, systems, and environmental change (PSE).

OUR PURPOSE: To mobilize and support community partners to create equitable choices that support healthy eating, active lifestyles, and smoke-free living. Please visit us at www.healthykingcounty.org

WHAT WE DO: We acknowledge the disparities within current health care initiatives and services. Our five active workgroups meet monthly, lead special projects throughout the year, and drive the dialogue up to the Governance Team and the coalition as a whole on PSE.

We host quarterly coalition meetings, leadership training, workshops on social change and managing data, and forums on how to change policies, systems, and the environment.

All members agree to mobilize their organization members around the Coalition’s health equity policy priorities and events and are available to provide in-kind staffing resources and/or financial support to the Coalition. All members are encouraged to connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn and stay abreast of our other news posted on our website.

Voting Member: You support our overarching goal of health equity. You belong to at least one Work Group, attend quarterly Coalition meetings, and participate in one event or workshop a year. Your organization will be listed on our website and letterhead as an official voting member regarding our annual policy priorities. You agree with our values and principals and support our platform. You use HKCC’s equity assessment tool in your work. (Voting Members that are disengaged from three consecutive Work Group meetings will be removed from our roster.)

Supporting Member: You support our overarching goal of health equity. You attend at least one Coalition meeting a year, support our events, and you’re encouraged to join one Work Group. You agree with our values and principals and support our platform, but cannot vote on PSE issues. You use HKCC’s equity assessment tool in your work.

Built Environment (BE) – Works to eliminate health inequities perpetuated in the built environment by busting silos and using a health equity len

Equity - Ensures health equity by applying race and social justice principles in all policy, systems, and environmental change efforts throughout the coalition’s work.

Healthy Eating (HE) - In partnership with community, the Healthy Eating Workgroup supports the improvement (from production to consumption) of local healthy food and access to nutrition for healthy lifestyles.

Tobacco, Marijuana, and Other Drugs (TMoD) - Supports strategies, promotions, partners, and programs that advance smoke-free living
