BOOKMAKING FOR EVERY CLASSROOM & EVERY CHILDPresented by: Karen O. BrownLearn to make simple book structures to deepen and enhance classroom subjects. Early Childhood through High School teachers learn how to increase academic confidence through hands-on bookmaking using everyday materials. Book structures include the Cereal Box book, the Japanese Accordion fold, Maze books, the Iris Fold, the House Book, Pop-Ups and more! Each book structure can adapt to multiple subjects - from math, science, language arts, cultural studies and history. Teachers are encouraged to expand their new skills to fit their own curriculum and the special needs of their students. During the workshop, teachers not only learn and practice their skills - but, are asked to ‘turn and teach’ others in the class. Teachers are given homework assignments to use their new skills and design and make two books with a focus on their most and least favorite lesson. I offer extended learning by phone or email correspondence to follow up on their progress and implementation in day to day use.Date: Dates can be requested by schools.Length of Event: 2 hoursDiscipline: Visual ArtsCurriculum Connections: Language Arts, Architecture/Urban Studies, Technology, Foreign Language, History & Geography, Diversity, Math, ScienceGrades: Teachers of PreK-12 (Workshop can be customized based on the grade levels attending.)
