Petition to Deny Amended Application for Green Fig Data Center on Swedesford Road, East Whiteland Township
An amended application has been submitted to East Whiteland Township for a 1,656,630 square foot hyperscale data center on Swedesford Road on the site of the Foote Mineral Superfund site across from the Malvern Hunt neighborhood. 

The amendment includes substantial changes to a plan previously approved (but not constructed) in 2024 for a 1,029,800 square foot data center. In addition to almost doubling the building footprint and processing capacity, the plan involves adding 64 industrial-sized diesel generators to the buildings' exterior.

These industrial facilities consume massive amounts of water and energy  (equivalent to small-large cities), straining the grid and increasing our electric bills,  and impact quality of life and place with noise, light and air pollution. Nearby homes, schools, daycares, businesses, the Chester Valley Trail and Exton Park would especially be impacted.

On March 9th the EWT Planning Commission voted to not recommend approval nor denial of the amended application to the Board of Supervisors, but instead that they give it "careful consideration". The Board of Supervisors is holding a special meeting for this on April 14th, 6pm at Penn Sate Great Valley. The public is strongly encouraged to attend in person or virtually. Public comment can be made in-person and/or by submitting written comments in advance. Details can be found here.
