GPS Certification Pathway: Connecting Talent to Teaching  24-25 school year                                                           Potential  Candidate Interest Form
We are excited to begin our planning for Cohort 3 for the GPS Certification Pathway, a Classroom-Based Educator Preparation Program,  in order to provide an alternative path to teacher certification for selected applicants. Applicants will be appointed into a full time teaching position while taking part in the two year program.  The GPS Certification Pathway is cost-free and course sessions will be conducted within the contract day. Please fill out the following form if you would like to be notified when the application process begins for the 2024-2025 school year.

Program participants will be individuals who possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a non-teaching based area and upon completion will be candidates to receive a certificate in one the following areas:

Special Education Mild/Moderate Disabilities, K-12 Certification
Special Education Early Childhood, Birth to Third Grade Certification
Elementary Education, Grades K-8 Certification
Secondary Education, Grades 6-12 Certification

Important details:

1. Pathway Program Participants must have a bachelors degree, have been fingerprinted by the start of the program and obtain an alternative teaching certificate. We will help with directions for obtaining the appropriate certificate.
2. Pathway Program Participants must not be current teachers or individuals already possessing an education degree or certificate.  For current Gen Ed teachers interested in special education endorsements, interested individuals should contact Rachael Thornton directly at certified@gilbertschools.net.
3. Pathway Program Participants will follow a 199 workday calendar and must be available for the entirety of the extended calendar. July 8, 2024 will be the first contract day for this group.
4. Available certificates will be in one of the four areas listed above.
5. Potential candidates may be current non-teaching employees, substitute teachers, parents, or others who have a strong desire to teach in Gilbert Public Schools in one of the above named areas.
6. Program completion results in a GPS Institutional Recommendation for a certificate in the State of Arizona only.  By the end of the two year program, candidates will need to successfully pass any certification tests required by the State of Arizona for their certificate area. Candidates must understand that this certification opportunity is valid in Arizona only and is not transferrable to other states.
7. We are asking for a commitment of two years in GPS beyond program completion, but are hoping to build a relationship with each teacher that spans their whole career.
