Climate protection and climate justice have been amongst the key topics of the international Naturefriends activities for several years. Since 2017, the Naturefriends Climate Fund has been financing projects in Africa that help reduce the impact of climate change, improve the living conditions of the population, and protect the climate. With the well-established Naturefriends Africa network and member organizations in 16 African countries, we implement partnership-based and sustainable projects in close cooperation with the local population. This is beneficial both for the people on the ground in Africa and for donors in the industrialized countries, who through their donations, make a transparent and effective personal contribution to climate justice.
In addition, NFI has been lobbying for a strong climate legislation and a socio-ecological energy transition, both essential elements in reaching the global climate goals *.
The disappointing results of the last COP27 as well as the failure of policy and decision makers at the EU and national levels
to tackle the climate crisis led us to reflect on our engagement: How can we better respond to climate change? How can we strengthen our contribution to climate change mitigation and climate justice? And how can we support our members and partners in the Global South, who are most impacted by climate change, in the most effective way?
With this survey, we want to find out within our worldwide Naturefriends network how the different member organisations experience (or not) the impacts of climate change (fires, floods, drought, storms, heat, lack of snow, increased costs for insurance, etc.) and how they contribute to reducing greenhouse-gas emissions and to improving climate justice. We also want to gain feedback on our international campaigns and initiatives and collect ideas for a strong joint commitment to climate protection and climate justice.
