Thank you for your interest in CFB's LEAP gifted services.
CFBISD has two gifted and talented services, Advanced Learner and LEAP, based upon educational need.
Advanced Learner is our gifted and talented service offered on each campus. If Advanced Learner is your service of interest, please contact your child's school counselor.
More information about our gifted services can be found here:
https://www.cfbisd.edu/departments/advanced-academic-services-world-languages LEAP is CFBISD's service for highly gifted students in kindergarten through 8th grade. It offers opportunities for curriculum acceleration and enrichment to meet the unique needs of highly gifted learners. LEAP students in K-5 are served on the McCoy Elementary campus, and in grades 6-8, students are served at Perry Middle School.
In grades K-5, students are taught core subjects in self-contained LEAP classes with age peers who are also in the highly gifted range. For music, art, PE, recess, and lunch, LEAP students work with students of all ability levels. In grades 6-8, students also take core courses with other LEAP students. LEAP students are served in elective classes with students of all abilities.
LEAP math is two grade levels advanced. Teachers use gifted and talented instructional strategies to meet the needs of highly gifted learners. LEAP English language arts focuses on students' grade level Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Teachers select above grade level text, assignments, and gifted and talented instructional strategies to meet and enrich the students' academic needs.
Students meeting eligibility requirements and demonstrating mastery on screenings will be scheduled for further assessment. Applications for Pre-K will be accepted at the beginning of second semester. Once an application for GT assessment is submitted, we cannot hold a student application for prescreening/testing longer than 10 days. Please continue past this point if you are ready to begin GT assessment for your student.
Out of district students will be charged a non-refundable fee of $100 to cover the cost of testing materials and examiners. Payment information will be provided to parents once the student is approved for assessment. Missed or cancelled appointments will not result in a refund.
