2022 NSF MMM REU: Call for Projects
Call for projects for the 2022 NSF REU Program on Computational Methods for Understanding Music, Media, and Minds (MMM REU), hosted by the Goergen Institute for Data Science at the University of Rochester. Please fill out the form below to submit your project.

We are excited to announce the launch of the 2022 NSF REU Program on Computational Methods for Understanding Music, Media and Minds! This NSF Research for Undergraduates (REU) program has run successfully every summer since 2017 (except for 2020). Each year, the program hosts 10 domestic undergraduates (selected from about 150 applicants) from all over the country to work on research projects with UR faculty and graduate student mentors over a 10-week period. The program has been very competitive and has been highly rated by participating students and mentors. Previous projects and participants can be found here: https://www.sas.rochester.edu/dsc/undergraduate/reu_past_sessions.html.

We are now calling for project proposals for the summer 2022 session. The proposal is a simple one-paragraph abstract of the research activities you plan for the students. Projects must have a strong computational component and be related to music, media and minds. Additionally, to foster collaboration among participants, projects that can host 2 students are highly preferred. Similarly, projects with two or more mentors from different research disciplines are also highly preferred.

This 2022 REU program will start in late May and end at the end of July. We are planning to hold it in person (how exciting!). All logistics (travel, lodging, food, etc.) will be arranged by the Goergen Institute for Data Science (GIDS) and the David T. Kearns Center. Each project can also support a paid graduate student mentor, typically a PhD student of one the faculty mentors. Logistics are taken care of to help our faculty mentors to focus on the scientific activities of their projects.

If you are interested, please submit your proposal through the following Google Form before 12/1/2021. Acceptance of proposals will be notified by 12/15/2021.

We look forward to your participation! If you have any questions regarding the program, please contact zhiyao.duan@rochester.edu and ajay.anand@rochester.edu.
