CURRENT STATUS: ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
This fund is open to current Akin studio members for rent relief for their studio rentals at Akin. You may request up to 50% of your current monthly Akin rent. Applicants may apply a maximum of two times within a twelve-month period, and cannot apply two consecutive months in a row. This is in the interest of sharing The Akin Rent Relief Fund with as many members in need as possible.
The Akin Studio Rent Relief Fund has been established in collaboration with Rania El Mugammar to provide current Akin artists and creatives with anonymous, one-time emergency grants to provide short term financial aid in unexpected situations of precarity and/or times of financial instability, such as emergencies, illness, health crises, family issues, or underemployment. More information can be found at
www.akincollective.com/rentreliefTo apply, please complete this form. The Akin Rent Relief Fund Committee will review your application and respond to you by email within 10 business days. If there are no funds currently available you will be informed by email within 48 hours of applying.
The Akin Studio Rent Relief Fund is administered and overseen by a committee consisting of Elder Artist in Residence Catherine Tammaro, one Akin staff member, one Akin Projects board member, and Rania El Mugammar who is Akin’s Equity, Anti-oppression, Liberation and Meaningful Inclusion Educator & Advisor.
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing, as-requested basis, when funds are available. Funding allotment will be based on need, merit of the application, and available funding through consensus-based decision-making.
This unique initiative has been launched as part of Akin’s ongoing Equity and Inclusion work. In 2018 we conducted a demographics survey report which highlighted the needs and experiences of our community. We intend for the Akin Studio Rent Relief Fund to reduce barriers for Akin studio members and create opportunities for marginalized communities.
