Great & Powerful Baldwin City
Welcome! We're glad you've found your way here, to information on Great & Powerful Baldwin City. We are a youth empowerment program at the Lumberyard Arts Center, a 501 (c)3 non-profit arts center in Baldwin City, Kansas. Our Great & Powerful program promotes mental health well-being through the arts.
The Great & Powerful program is for youth by youth. The program is led by our wonderful Emerald Emissaries, 14-24 year olds who receive training and mentoring from community partners and arts center staff.
Emerald Emissaries are provided educational and service opportunities to encourage team building, leadership, and advocacy for mental health well-being. Emissaries assist with the expansion of the arts center's existing Free Summer Art Program to encourage mental health well-being. Our program uses The Wizard of Oz as a focal point and teaching metaphor for experiencing mindful well-being, resiliency skills, and positive support relationships through art and creativity for children ages 4-13 as part of Free Summer Art.
Emerald Emissaries are also creating a Community Vision Plan, giving input about the mental health challenges they see in their environments, and sharing their vision of how to successfully respond to needs. The Great & Powerful program is free to Emissaries and Free Summer Art participants. We could not provide this program without the support of our partners and grant funders. We are truly grateful to be able to serve our community in this way.
