2017 CHEFS Workshop Application
Save the Date: The CA Higher Ed Food Summit (CHEFS) is set for June 24-26, 2017 at UC Santa Barbara! CHEFS is hosting it's third annual summit where students, staff/faculty, and community members across the state convene to discuss and prioritize food access and justice issues impacting students on a individual, community, and institutional level.

Our theme for this year is “Uniting Our Communities through Empowerment and Action: Advancing Basic Needs and Frameworks for Change."

Through this theme we hope to accomplish the following goals:

- Engage in critical discussions cover basic needs issues (i.e. food security, housing/homelessness, FinAid challenges, etc...) as a social justice issue impacting students, families, and community members.
- Raise awareness about the basic needs issues, including food and housing insecurity, affecting college students across the four segments of higher education (Community College, California State University, University of California, Private Colleges).
- Discuss and identify short and long term strategies to advance a basic needs secure vision for CA higher education (e.g. food security, innovative pantries/distribution, increasing CalFresh enrollment to financial aid formulas, housing security, and community network capacity building).
- Explore the intersections between food access, equity, and justice.

Workshop proposals should reflect these goals and correlate to one of the following tracks:
1. Awareness and skill-building
2. Data/Analysis to Action
3. Advocacy and Strategic Planning

Workshop Requirements:
- All workshops must be 60 minutes in length
- Must be suitable for an audience of ~20-40 people
-We encourage presenters to consider participatory methods to engage your session attendees (i.e. A/V is available upon request in submission process below)

The deadline to submit your workshop application(s) is: May 19, 2017 at 5:00pm PST.

We look forward to hearing what ideas, tools, and conversations that you wish to bring to this summit. If you have any questions, please contact Tim Galarneau @ tgalarne@ucsc.edu or 831-359-8861.
