Hats Off Day 2024 Volunteer Form
The Hats Off Day Organizing Committee is looking for enthusiastic and hard-working people to volunteer on the day of the Festival.

Special Opportunity for Not-for-Profits, Recreational Sports Teams, etc.
If your not-for-profit society or sports team has a group of 6 people or more who wish to volunteer together at the same time, on behalf of your society, the lead Festival organizer (Heights Merchants Association) will provide a donation to your society/association as a way of thanks. Please indicate if you are volunteering as a group.

Diverse Roles for the Festival
Both Teen and Adult volunteers are needed on Hats Off Day for 4.5hrs shifts. The Barricade roles may have variable shifts (3 or 4.5 hours). Full-day shifts are also available.

Many roles are available, including office support before the event itself. We also require Barricade support at intersections during the event. This involves managing the flow of vehicles in and out of the side street between Albert and Hastings or between Pender and Hastings and merchant/resident access to laneways. These positions lend themselves well to those who enjoy working with and helping people and are best suited to adults or older teens 17+ (with an adult).

Other Festival roles involve supporting the Parade, helping with marketing-supported activity, delivering items to other parts of the Festival site, attending children's inflatable bouncies (castles, etc.), supporting the sponsor zone and more.

Youth Community Hours
Youth may request and receive a letter or document acknowledging the community volunteer hours you have contributed.

Harassment-free Zone
The Hats Off Day Festival organizers provide an action-packed, friendly, positive and supportive volunteer atmosphere. We do not support nor condone racism, abuse or harassment of any kind and aim to keep your volunteer experience with us as enjoyable as possible.

Compensation
Volunteers receive either a t-shirt or a baseball hat, depending on their role. They are also provided a meal or a voucher to obtain a meal (if their shift does not intersect with the lunch period). Volunteers are not generally compensated, but youth who work their entire shift are eligible to enter a draw to win great prizes. Barricade volunteers who complete their shift receive a special thank you gift as their shift is off the festival site and the work is more challenging.

Acknowledgement of Responsibility
By submitting this form, you acknowledge and agree that you must conduct yourself responsibly as a Hats Off Day volunteer. Hats Off Day volunteers represents the Hats Off Day organizing committee, the Heights Merchants Association, and the partners and sponsors of this event.
