Family Support Fund and Resource Application
Student U strives to create more just and equitable Durham through the power of education. We understand that families make sacrifices in order to support their children towards this goal. Student U is committed to supporting students and families of the Student U community with Family Support Funds and community resources in order to ensure families can prioritize both the participation expectations of Student U, as well as family's academic and wellness goals. The Family Advocates, Carmen Valdez and Markeytta Witherspoon, are here to support families in navigating these challenging times and finding appropriate resources. Family Advocates can help to look for resources and with resource applications. Please allow 1 week follow-up time. The current maximum per family is $350/calendar year. Your student must be at full participation to receive this benefit. Since this benefit often times supports the whole family, we will also ask parents to try and participate in at least 2 parent programs per year. 

Support Fund Intended Purpose
The fund will support Student U families who are facing financial challenges with supports such as car repairs, groceries, clothing, medical emergencies, housing, etc. The fund is not intended to support students or families with expected costs such as tuition payments and enrollment fees.
