Satellite Session: From Policy to Action Expanding Health Worker Roles for Comprehensive Abortion Care In India
Department of Reproductive Health and Research, WHO and Ipas Development Foundation (IDF) are hosting a satellite session at the ninth APCRSHR conference on 28 Nov, 2017 in Room M4, Quang Ninh Exhibition of Planning and Expo Center (QNEPEC), Halong Bay, Vietnam.

This session is designed to discuss the role of health workers in provision of safe abortion care and post abortion contraception in India. Exhaustive mapping of the legal and policy landscape to match the cadres in India with the WHO guidelines was followed by consultations with experts to draft the policy recommendations. This background work shall inform the moderated panel discussion to highlight strategies of moving from policy to program strengthening for leveraging role of health workers for comprehensive abortion care in India. The process of using the WHO guidance for drafting policy recommendations in India could be replicated in other countries as well.
