Remembering Dr Ong Bee Lian, lecturer, mentor and friend

Dear friends of Bee Lian,

thank you for deciding to share your thoughts to celebrate her role in education at NUS or for sending her family a message of condolence.

I was touched by the comments students made on Facebook about her lecturing, mentorship and kindness. I appreciated her strong support for fairness, respect and trust for students when I worked with her on an ethics committee. This aspect of her life should be shared and remembered for us to appreciate and emulate.

She was close to many department staff, who are greatly saddened at her passing and I think they and the family will be glad to hear your thoughts, which I caught some glimpse of on Facebook.

If you wish to send a message of condolence to the family, please use this form to do so as well. I will send the family our thoughts.

Thank you for writing - every short note will be lovely to read and your thoughts will be shared on the NUS Biodiversity Crew blog (https://nusbiodiversity.wordpress.com). I will publish a note early next week and will update the post for comments which come in later.

Thank you.

With respect, N. Sivasothi
Department of Biological Sciences, NUS
