Longmont Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition for Young Artists 

The Longmont Symphony Orchestra (LSO) is excited to announce the creation of a new concerto competition for young musicians, established in memory of Mary Alice Tonkinson. We are honored to celebrate her legacy through this opportunity for talented students from Longmont and the surrounding communities. 

This competition is open to current 11th and 12th grade students from northern Colorado, including those in the St. Vrain Valley School District and residents of Loveland, Milliken, Fort Lupton, Windsor, Johnstown, Firestone, Frederick, Brighton, Niwot, Allenspark, and Estes Park. Longmont Youth Symphony members are also eligible to apply. 

Prizes:

1st Place: $2,500 + Performance with LSO

2nd Place: $1,000

3rd Place: $500

Key Dates:

Application Deadline: Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, at Noon.

Competition Date: Saturday, October 18th, 2025

Applicants must provide their own piano accompaniment. Memorization is not required for the audition, but it is required for the performance. 

1st Place Performance Date: Saturday, January 17th, 2026, at 4:00 PM 

Prizes will be awarded at the sole discretion of the LSO's panel of judges, who reserve the right to withhold any or all prizes. First Place Prize Winner is required to attend dress rehearsal on the evening of Thursday, January 15th, and concert on January 17th at 4pm at Vance Brand Auditorium in Longmont.
