Your child has chosen to become part of the school Kapahaka group (Maori Performing Arts). These classes are led by Whaea Carla. This year we have a powerful 60+ students who have committed to the group.
In kakaphaka students will take part in singing, performing, learning cultural history, origins of Kapahaka, utilising, tititorea (stick game) ti rakau (long stick game), poi (ball on string), taking part in the Koanga Festival, group performances and trips. These are just some of the many awesome things your child will get to experience.
We have some beautiful taonga (treasures) that our children get to take home as a reward. If your child comes home with a taonga, please remind them to have them back to the school the following week before Friday.
We encourage parents to support our class by joining our support group. The support group will meet at 1.15pm in the hall on Fridays and will help us in all kinds of ways including your presence, painting, sewing mending costumes, hot glue gun work, making poi, other materials and supporting the children. All helpers are welcome, no experience necessary there will be a helper to guide you.
