GreenThumb Citizen Pruner Application
GreenThumb is partnering with Trees New York to offer free Citizen Pruner certification classes to community gardeners. Please apply by Monday, April 13, at 5pm. Location will be shared with accepted participants.
Dates: Mondays, 6pm-8pm, May 11, May 18, May 25, June 1, and June 8, with an outing on Saturday, June 5.
Trees New York’s Citizen Pruner Tree Care Course trains volunteers in tree care, biology, identification and pruning. The course consists of eight hours of classroom training and four hours of hands-on experience in the field. With Citizen Pruner certification from Trees New York, members of GreenThumb community gardens can do basic pruning of small trees and shrubs in the garden and street tree beds.
GreenThumb has reserved a limited number of seats for community gardeners to get certified. After getting certified, GreenThumb citizen pruners will be asked to complete 8 supervised volunteer hours to help with minor pruning needs at other community gardens. Gardeners who get their certification and complete the 8 hours will receive a small set of pruning tools and a hard hat, and be asked to join a new group of GreenThumb volunteers dedicated to helping with the pruning needs of community gardens throughout the city.
