Voices of Easthampton 2025 Interest Form

In celebration of Easthampton City Arts' Poetry Month in April 2025, Easthampton Poet Laureate Carolyn Cushing will once again facilitate the creation of a chapbook and organize a reading. Poets who live, work, or are active in Easthampton can express their interest in participating in one or both of these activities by filling out this form.

Responses encouraged by March 1.

About the Reading: On Saturday April 26 at 2 pm in CitySpace's Blue Room, Carolyn will organize and host a group poetry reading. The format and themes of the reading will be woven from the work submitted for consideration. We anticipate about 8 slots for readers. We hope that whoever is named as the incoming Easthampton Poet Laureate will also be available to attend and read.

About the Chapbook: The format of the booklet will be the same as last year (image is here). Copies will be distributed throughout the city for free, and will even pop up in unexpected places. We anticipate there will be room for 14 to 18 poems.

We welcome and are actively seeking a diverse range of voices, including poets who, for example:

  • work in different poetic forms and write in different styles;
  • bring diverse life experiences, including: age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, class;
  • write in languages other than English, create multilingual poetry, and/or translate poetry.

As gratitude for your participation, we will have a sweet treat for you and you'll receive two copies of the chapbook.

Thank you so much for being willing to share your poetry with the people of Easthampton!

The Easthampton Poet Laureate program is an initiative of Easthampton City Arts (ECA). Funding and collaborative support for this event is provided by ECA, with generous support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Are you available on Saturday, April 26th?
Clear selection
If you are available on the 26th and wish to be considered for participation in the reading, please share one to two poems pasted or linked here that is/are most representative of your work and that you would likely want to read. Previously published work is great.
What are the most important themes that your current poetry is touching on?
Do you have any accessibility needs around participating in the reading?
Would you like a poem of yours to be considered for inclusion in the chapbook? (Previously published poems are just fine. FYI, most journals would count inclusion in this chapbook as being previously published. The poem could be the same as one you submitted to be considered for the reading if it fits the formatting requirements below. If it doesn't fit these requirements, submit one that does.)
Clear selection
If you would like a poem to be considered for inclusion in the chapbook, it must be pasted here (but let me know if you have tech troubles - carolynanncushing@gmail.com). Due to the limitations of the form of the 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 booklet and the capacity of the editor, poems with complicated line breaks/formats will not work and you need to do your best to follow these guidelines to create and  then paste below:

1. Open a document and set page orientation to Landscape

2. Leave margins at 1 inch all around

3. Use Ariel 12 point font

4. Put your name exactly as you would like it to appear

5. Go down 2 spaces

6. Put title of your poem

7. One space

8. Your poem

9. At least one space

10. (Optional) One link to a website / social media handle

If there is room and the poem has been published, you can add one line to acknowledge.

If your poem goes to over to another page, it is too long. It lines are longer her than 4 1/2 inches, they are too long.

Please share a few words about yourself as a poet or a short bio (about 50 words)  *
Do you have a book / publication that you are currently promoting? If so, please describe.
Feel free to share one/your main online presence link / handle (i.e. website or social media site where you are most active)
Would you like to be considered for other ECA opportunities for literary artists?
