This Call is open to Artists, Arts groups, knitters, crochets, community, religious, and school groups. If you know how to work with yarn, we welcome your submission. Henceforth, the term “Artist” shall be used to describe all eligible participants – we are all creative at heart!
YARN n YOGA is a FREE, grassroots, community-led arts and recreation event planned as a farewell to the historic Euclid Beach Pier, one of the last remnants of the Euclid Beach Amusement Park, to be demolished this Fall. The YARN n YOGA event will also feature a bike ride to the Beach led by Cleveland Critical Mass, a photo booth, a dessert vendor, FREE yoga at sunset, music and more!
YARN n YOGA aims to capture the history of the Park while this event forms the last and best memory of the Pier. Your submission must include a proposal describing the imagery on your panel (summer, water, Cleveland, or Euclid Beach themes are encouraged, as well as bold geometric patterns and prints). You must also include a short story (max 500 words) sharing a memory of the Park. Alternatively, an ode to Cleveland’s greatest natural asset, Lake Erie, will be accepted. Stories will be on display at the Pier on July 25th when we will ask community members to expand upon the storytelling with an anecdote of their own.
Artists are invited to submit a 2’ x 2’ knit /crocheted panel for YARN n YOGA, Cleveland’s first large-scale yarn storm at the Euclid Beach Pier on Friday, July 25th, 2014. This is a unique opportunity to exhibit work to thousands of people during events like “Euclid Beach Live” and the 5th Annual “Euclid Beach Blast”. The exhibit at the pier will begin on July 25th, 2014 and will remain on view until August 7th, 2014. Additionally, an opening reception for the YARN n YEARS gallery show will be held in the nearby Waterloo Arts District on Friday, October 3rd, 2014 featuring historic and contemporary photographs and artifacts from the Pier, including selected submissions from YARN n YOGA.
A stipend will be supplied to all artists fulling the project requirements. A "people's choice" award for the public's favorite artist submission is sponsored by "The Artful Yarn- Chagrin Falls" and is valued at $100.
