Call Governor Rauner To Say, "We need Safe Zones in Illinois!"
School districts, courthouses, hospitals and clinics in Illinois serve immigrant communities every day. These communities are wracked with fear given the uncertainty of how ICE interacts with these essential state-funded institutions.

The Immigration Safe Zones Act will ensure that children, students, and families in Illinois have meaningful access to essential, sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, clinics, libraries, and courthouses without fearing family separation. Many have passed their own policies addressing concerns of families and students. This bill will provide a commonsense approach, standardized across the state, to ensure that these institutions are in compliance with state and federal law. Gov. Rauner must sign this bill into law this year.

Feel free to use the following script when making your calls:

Good Morning/afternoon,

My name is _____________ and I am calling today from the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs. I’m calling Governor Rauner to urge him to sign SB35 (Immigration Safe Zones Act), as part of the Campaign for a Welcoming Illinois this session. SB 35 addresses the threat of immigration arrests at state-funded institutions like schools, hospitals, and courthouses, by directing the Illinois Attorney General to develop model policies for these locations to limit their cooperation with ICE. SB 35 will protect families and ensure the public safety of all people in Illinois. Governor Rauner must sign SB35 into law this session.
Thank you.
