About Ignite NYC Talks:

There will be 12-14 talks.
Each talk is 5 minutes with 20 slides that auto-progress.
What do you say?

We are looking for people who have a story to tell about living in a world with smart technology and artificial intelligence. What is working and what is not working? Are we headed in the right direction?
• We are looking to feature stories about technology
• How have smart tech, AI or software helped you personally grow?
• Has a computer ever saved your life?
• Are you or someone you know dependent on phones to a ridiculous level?
• What have you learned from machines or AI that scares you or fascinates you?
• Any of this topics are good or you can also suggest your own!

Reach out to oscar@ignitenyc.us for any questions, otherwise pitch us your idea by filling out the form below.

The Ignite rules:
Your story should be told in the form of 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds for a total of 5-minutes. ( we can help you put the presentation together)

Dos:
• Tell a story that is inspirational, vulnerable, provocative and/or absurd.
• Cover the who, what, when, where and why of the situation in your story.
• Feel empowered to share a story from your personal life: relationships, moves, personal projects, etc.
• Have a stake in the story you are sharing. You will essential do storytelling in front of an audience. What do you stand to gain or lose? What is it in your story that is important to you? What impact did the event(s) in your story have on your life today?

Don’ts:
• Don’t pitch us on your business or demo your product. We support you in sharing your pitches in more appropriate venues, like the New York Tech Meetup or Digital DUMBO (or another event of its kind for that!) Our attendees don’t respond well to sales pitches. Trust us when we say you really don’t want to stand out for this reason!
• Don't rant. It’s really not fun to listen to rants. Unless you shape your anger into a funny or inspiring story with a non-angry resolution of course ;-)

What's your favorite Ignite talk?
If you haven't ever seen an ignite talk, now's a good time to spend 5m watching one so you know what you're getting into. Check 'em out at https://www.youtube.com/user/IgniteNYC/videos

Post compelling video *
If you don’t have video of yourself in action at an event, please create a very short clip (~1 minute) of yourself proposing your talk. We don’t care at all about the quality of the video; we care about finding speakers with great energy . Feel free to use your phone or Flipcam to take the video, and don’t worry about editing it in any way. If your video isn’t already online, post it to a third-party site (YouTube is fine), and then share the link with us.
