Running for the Boston Food Access Council (BFAC) Steering Committee is an opportunity that is accessible to all interested individuals. Candidates are elected by the Voting Members of the BFAC. Working alongside a fractional executive director for BFAC, Steering Committee members are responsible for soliciting input from community members and partners, BFAC Members, Working Groups, and peer Steering Committee members to define policy and programmatic priorities, provide strategic direction and operational support, and guide and govern the BFAC.
Some examples of skills and areas of expertise that the Steering Committee seeks in Steering Committee members include:
- Community outreach and advocacy (ethical storytelling, base building, building community capacity for advocacy, etc.)
- Communications (newsletters, social media, graphic design, etc.)
- Event planning (sponsorships, partner coordination, outreach, coordination, etc.)
- Fundraising (individual giving campaigns, funder relations, sponsorships, grant writing, etc.)
- Policy (understanding state and local policy in food access sphere, familiarity with the network involved in this work in MA and Boston, etc.)
- Administration (managing budgets, fiscal sponsor relationship, subscriptions and technology platforms, Google Drive organization, etc.)

The BFAC Steering Committee is comprised of 9 members, including 2 co-chairs. Attendance at 10 or more planning meetings and 3 of the 4 BFAC Public Meetings a year is expected, along with activities outside of those meetings to move the work of the BFAC forward. Steering Committee members typically contribute 8-10 hours of their time to this role per month.
The term of service for Steering Committee members elected during this election will be January 2026 - December 2027.
PLEASE NOTE: All BFAC Steering Committee seats are unpaid, volunteer roles that are critical supports to the work of the BFAC.
To enter yourself into the running for a seat on the BFAC Steering Committee, take the following two steps:
1. If you have not done so already, please email office@bostonfoodaccesscouncil.org to set up a meeting with a Steering Committee member, to learn more about this opportunity and to share more about yourself.

Complete and submit this form by 5:00PM on Saturday, December 6th. Please take your time to fill out this form. This information will be used to showcase your background and the value you can bring to the BFAC as a leader. Email office@bostonfoodaccesscouncil.org with questions.
3. To qualify to run for the BFAC Steering Committee, you must be a BFAC Member (simply complete the form:

This BFAC Steering Committee election will occur on
Tuesday, December 9th during the scheduled BFAC Public Meeting, starting at 6p.
Candidates will have a few minutes to introduce themselves to the meeting attendees at that time. You must be available to attend this meeting and introduce yourself to our network. Please email office@bostonfoodaccesscouncil.org if you have a conflict.
