GEMS 2020-2021 Application
GEMS is a program designed to help middle school girls learn about the range of opportunities that exist within ‘science and technology'. The goal of the program is to encourage girls to maintain and broaden their interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) topics by providing hands-on activities, mentoring, field trips, and information pertaining to a variety of fields. Due to COVID-19 safety regulations, this year's curriculum has been modified to be completed virtually!

Activities will be held in the middle of each month from November through April, and will consist of mentor-led at-home STEM kits and online virtual activities. Field trips this year will consist of virtual tours of real STEM labs and workplaces and a chance to ask scientist live about their work. We'll also send out fun STEM-related videos each month that you can check out on your own to keep the science going! To learn more about the program and who we are, head on over to our website: http://seattleawis.org/awis-events/gems/

This application should be filled out by a student, not by their parent or guardian (although parents/guardians may need to help answer some questions). The first session will take place on November 17th/18th. In order to maximize the number of girls able to experience the program, we only allow 1 year of GEMS participation for each girl. Lastly, we consider girls of all scientific backgrounds! Whether you've taken several advanced courses or have never been exposed to science in a traditional classroom setting, we encourage you to apply!

Applications close October 23rd and we will let you know by November 1st if you've been chosen to participate this year!
